The Ultimate Dream Team

Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign-30 hours (10) 6:30-9:30 pm 4/6-5/9

Where: Wake Technical Community College, 3434 Kildaire Farm Rd, Cary, NC 27518, United States (map)
Description: Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign are “the big three” of the Adobe Creative Suite – but they are not interchangeable. Using the wrong program for your project could result in blurry text, sloppy layout, and logos that cannot be resized without becoming pixelated disasters. Using all three programs together, however, turns them into the ultimate dream team. You can maximize the strengths of each program while minimizing their weaknesses; where one program fails, another can pick up the slack. This course reviews each program and shows you how to integrate them to create professional print and web-ready documents, from start to finish. The course includes plenty of hands-on learning. Prerequisite: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or Adobe InDesign or equivalent experience. This is an advanced class. All prerequisites are considered to be the basic skills and knowledge needed prior to taking this class. Instructors will assume your readiness for the class materials and will NOT use class time to discuss prerequisite materials. Please bring a USB drive to class for holding class files and assignments. Please contact Ernestine Ledbetter at 919-334-1623 or at edledbetter@waketech.edu with questions or concerns. Which Program is right for me

Is it best to start with one program over another?

ps-iconPhotoshop – Many people ask me which program they should learn first. My answer depends on what you do and how you plan to use the programs. In general, if you’re not sure where to start and are just looking for a program that does it all, my advice would be to begin with Photoshop. It’s really the most intuitive of the programs I teach and also the most versatile. It is a huge program but don’t be intimidated most people only need and use a small portion of it. However you chose to use the program it’s a great place to start.

ai-iconIllustrator – For design, illustration and graphic work Illustrator is your best choice. It’s a little less intuitive than Photoshop and takes a some time to get to know. There is no other program I know of that does a better job creating vector art than illustrator. This program is considered a requirement by most employers for anyone interested in a design career.

indesign-iconInDesign – For Layout and design, InDesign is king. This program is often overlooked by artists because there are other programs they can use to get them by. If you’re tired of just getting by then InDesign is a must. This program is hands down the best layout program in the creative suit and it is also the industry standard for layout and design. I recommend students interested in this course have a basic understanding of Photoshop and Illustrator in order to get the most out of InDesign.
